Let me start out by saying that this is my first dystopian/post-apocalyptic book I’ve ever read, and if anyone was going to pop my dystopian cherry, I’m glad it was Pam Godwin. Her words consumed me from the moment I started reading.
A Muslim extremist releases a virus that is supposed to wipe out the U.S. but has instead killed all women and children in the entire world population, only leaving men, human mutated aphids and only one woman alive.. our heroine, Evie.
Evie is one of the strongest characters I’ve read. She’s lost everything and everyone she loves to the virus, yet she’s the only woman left standing and has an immunity to the aphid virus. But, why? What is so special about Evie? Has she survived because of her genetics or is it from an adaptation to her environment?
“Stay Alive. Seek Truth. Do not look back.”
On her search for the truth, she battles the aphids on her journey from Missouri to Europe, picking up a few scrumptious guardians along the way:
Jesse: guardian of her mind
Roarke: guardian of her soul
Michio: guardian of her body
“Trust mind, body and soul. Your guardians.”
All of these men have different strengths that aid Evie along the way and fill the void that was left in her heart after she lost everything, and I loved every single one of them.
This was a unique, well delivered, suspenseful, and at times, an emotional read about a woman’s survival with a slow burn romance starting to build towards the end. I’ve heard things really heat up in the 2nd book and I can only imagine the hotness with Jesse, Roarke and Michio when they all claim Evie 😉
I will definitely be continuing with this series.
